PREGNANCY WEEK 37
Yay - you made it!
Although your due date is not for another 3 weeks you are now actually classed as being at term. It is expected that your baby will arrive anytime between now and 42 weeks of pregnancy. Let's hope you don't have to wait another 5 weeks.
If you are planning on breastfeeding you can now start your colostrum harvesting which will be the gift that keeps on giving in the early weeks. If you have been to antenatal classes (hopefully Let's Talk Birth and Baby ones!) you will be aware of the signs of labour and what to do when the time comes. If not have a look at The Honest Midwives article on "Signs of Labour"
Everything is in place
Everything is in place now - even that first poo! A black sticky substance called meconium is present in the baby's digestive system. During labour, once your waters have broken your midwife will continue to monitor the colour of your waters so make sure that your baby hasn't had a poo. If baby does this it is recommended that you are continuously monitored as it can be a sign that baby is distressed or not coping well with labour.
It is important that you contact the hospital if your waters break so that they can monitor your progress.
