Best father’s day gifts for new and expectant dads

Father’s Day is a great time to celebrate dads but it isn’t just for people with children who are old enough to write a card or pick out their own present.

If your partner is an expectant dad or a new parent this father’s day, it’s a great opportunity to show him how much you care for, and appreciate everything he does. Of course, there are lots of different ways you can express your appreciation but here are some great ideas for heartfelt gifts for new and expectant fathers.

A picture is worth a thousand words

Becoming a parent is a time filled with precious memories and photographs are a great way of remembering those important moments. One great gift idea for a new or expectant dad is a camera which he can use to capture his little one’s memorable milestones. Alternatively, if photography isn’t really your partner’s thing, you could arrange a photoshoot of him with your little one or have your favourite snap of them both framed or made into a canvas. If your baby hasn’t arrived yet, you could frame the image from your latest ultrasound scan or have it made into a personalised product like a mug or keyring.

Dads need pampering too

Your partner may not have physically gone through pregnancy and birth but the chances are, he’s still exhausted and in need of pampering. Treating him to his favourite toiletries, whether it’s buying a new bottle of aftershave or getting him an indulgent bubble bath, can help encourage him to relax. You could even splash out on vouchers for a massage or even a spa day (it might even be something you can go and enjoy together).

If you’re on a tight budget, you could show your appreciation with some homemade vouchers which he can cash in with you when he wants to. You could choose anything from a Saturday morning lie in or a foot rub to a get out of this nappy change for free card or a movie night where he gets to pick the film and snacks.

Clothes fit for a father

Matching clothes for parents and their babies are now big business and there are lots of great options out there for dads and their little ones. As well as amusing slogan T-shirts designed to be worn at the same time, you might be able to get hold of mini versions of his favourite clothes so your baby can follow in his style footsteps. Dads-to-be don’t have to be left out either as there are lots of designs available for expectant fathers too on sites like Amazon, Etsy and NotontheHighStreet.

If your partner is keen to enjoy more cuddles with your newborn, you could also consider a babywearing top designed to encourage skin-to-skin contact in the early days.

A date night

Treating your partner to a night out together is a lovely way of showing your appreciation. This could be a meal out, watching a stand-up comedian, a trip to the cinema – the choice is yours, just make sure it is based on something your partner would really enjoy.

This gift idea might be easier if you’re still waiting for your little one to arrive or if you have family and friends willing to babysit. If not, you could arrange a fun day out and take your baby along too or even set up a date night for at home when your baby is asleep.

A hamper of treats

One gift idea you can’t go wrong with is a hamper of all their favourite treats. Collect together some of the snacks they enjoy most and their favourite drinks and put it together into a box or basket.

This will go down particularly well with new dads who might appreciate having some of their favourite foods to hand to help them through the sleepless nights.
